California Native Homeland Festival
Exhibition, 2023
The second annual Festival at The Exploratorium on Earth Day 2024, featuring Indigenous artists and leaders and celebrating connection to land and water.
The second annual California Native Homeland Festival at The Exploratorium brought Indigenous artists, speakers, and community leaders to the museum to share culture and converse about connection to land and water.
Exhibition graphics included informational and wayfinding signage, as well as a program guide which featured a schedule, a map, and artist bios.
Considering that this project involved multiple graphic needs, my first objective was to create an organized spreadsheet to track the progress of all deliverables.
One of the biggest movements for this year's design direction was the color palette reflecting water and land. Thus, palette options were thoroughly explored before beginning design. The lockup of the Exploratorium logo and the partner logos of ARO and AICD was paid careful attention to to ensure balance between the partnering organizations.
A booklet helped guests contextualize presenting artists and guest speakers. Spread 1 displays a map to help guide guests from the Plaza to the Kanbar Forum. Spread 2 and 3 features artists' bios. The back cover includes photography of traditional abalone jewelry.
